Senior Vice President, Mission and Ministry

Susan Hébert joined the Centura Health senior management team in January 2007 as Senior Vice President of Mission and Ministry.  In this role, she provides leadership in assuring mission and values integration into the core business practices of the organization.  Her responsibilities include strategy development and implementation of initiatives to advance the culture of Centura, spiritual leadership formation, shaping of ethics infrastructure, orientation to core values, healthy community's involvement, workplace spirituality and effective pastoral care throughout the system.  Her work supports the efforts of the hospital, home health/hospice and senior care facility CEOs, Vice Presidents for Mission Integration and executive teams in their leadership of Centura Health as a ministry continuing the healing mission of Jesus.

Susan has 25 years of experience of progressive leadership in health care ministry to include both clinical practice and administration.  Prior to joining Centura Health, she served as Vice President of Mission Integration at St. Anthony Hospital/CHI (Catholic Health Initiatives) in Pendleton, OR.  As a former Sister of Mercy of the Baltimore Region, Susan served in a variety of health ministry leadership roles in the CHE (Catholic Health East) system.  She was an Assistant Administrator at Mercy Medical, Mobile/Daphne, AL with operational oversight responsibility for Hospice and Home Health, Assisted Living/Independent living sites and the Departments of Social Work, Pastoral Care and Therapeutic Recreation.  Prior to this assignment, Susan was Mercy Medical's Director of Social Work and Pastoral Care.  She began her early professional life as a social worker in the following areas of practice: Community Organizer, C.O.P.S. (Communities Organized for Public Service), San Antonio, TX; Family and Marriage Therapist, Family Services Association, San Antonio, TX and Medical Social Worker and Psychiatric Social Worker, respectively, serving WWII and Vietnam veterans at Audie Murphy VA Hospital, San Antonio, Tx in positions of progressive responsibilities including the clinical specialty areas of Psychiatry, Med/Surg, Ortho, Cardiac and Renal Care.  In addition, Susan served as Medical Social Worker in the OB/GYN and Emergency Care Clinics at Mercy Health Center, Baltimore, MD.  
      
Susan's academic accomplishments include the following:

A.B.D. in Contemporary Systematic Theology and M.Phil (Masters in Philosophy) with a concentration in Theology and Ethics, Fordham University, Bronx, NY;

M.T.S. (Masters in Theological Studies), Spring Hill College, Mobile, AL

M.S.W. (Masters in Social Work), Our Lady of the Lake University; San Antonio, TX

B.S.S.W. (Bachelors in Social Work), Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio, TX

Additionally, Susan is a member of the American Academy of Religion (AAR) and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
