Clinical Pastoral Education
Ministry Formation and Professional Competence Development
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Centura Health offers opportunities to develop ministry formation and enhance professional competence for persons who will serve in parishes, congregations, hospitals, home health, hospice and a variety of other institutional and community contexts.
Utilizing an action-reflection model of learning, students provide spiritual care services to patients, families, and staff as part of an inter-disciplinary health care team. CPE students are provided opportunities to learn from their experiences in ministry through clinical presentations, group seminars, and individual supervision to learn from their experiences in ministry.
Under the guidance of a certified pastoral educator a student makes use of her/his faith tradition and the behavioral sciences to understand and respond to the deeper needs of persons. In a similar way he/she develops and enhances professional identity and competence through self-reflection, peer support and feedback, and individual supervision. These learning modalities are designed to integrate theory and practice, deepen one's understanding of self and others, and foster spiritual sensitivity.
Centura Health offers three programs of clinical pastoral education - Level I, Level II, and Supervisory education. We are accredited as a System CPE Center by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc.
