CHPG Women’s Specialty Health – Church Ranch is dedicated to diagnosing and treating cancers that originate on a woman’s reproductive organs. Our fellowship-trained gynecologic oncology specialist understands that cancer does not merely change a person’s health, it impacts her entire life. In addition to providing women with the best care for gynecologic cancers, Dr. Irina Dimitrova believes her principle role is to guide and support her patients through the many challenges and changes she will face fighting cancer. Dr. Dimitrova deeply appreciates the relationship she creates with her patient as she is knows it is paramount to her well-being.
Types of gynecologic cancer
The five gynecologic cancers begin in different places within a woman's pelvis, which is the area below the stomach and in between the hip bones.
Dr. Dimitrova also provides specialized care for peritoneal cancer, tubal cancer and gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (a rare cancer of the placenta).
Symptoms of gynecologic cancer
Each gynecologic cancer has different signs, different risk factors and different prevention strategies. Symptoms to watch for may include:
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge
- Pelvic pain or pressure
- Abdominal or back pain
- Changes in bathroom habits
- Itching or burning of the vulva
- Changes in vulva color or skin, such as a rash, sores or warts
All women are at risk for gynecologic cancers, and risk increases with age. Regular screenings and self-examinations can help detect certain gynecological cancers in their earlier stages and increase the likelihood of successful treatment.
From diagnosis to chemotherapy and surgery, Dr. Dimitrova provides comprehensive care for female-specific cancers and precancerous lesions. If you need surgery, we use minimally invasive laparoscopic or robotic techniques whenever possible.
- Surgical management of gynecologic malignancies, including minimally-invasive laparoscopic surgery.
- Management and administration of chemotherapy regimens.
CHPG Women’s Specialty Health provides clinically advanced care to women who suffer from pelvic floor disorders. Pelvic floor disorders occur when women have weakened pelvic muscles and/or tears in the connective tissue of the pelvic organs.
Treating Bladder and Incontinence Conditions
Incontinence is a very personal condition. Dr. John Joyce of CHPG Women’s Specialty Health wants you to know that women are 4-5 times more likely to have urinary incontinence problems than men. Treatment, including non-surgical options, is available.
Below are signs and symptoms of common bladder issues.
- Overactive bladder (OAB): If you feel the need to go urgently and cannot control the urge, and leakage occurs.
- Urinary Retention: Urination is difficult to start and flow is weak. Or, if when you finish, you may still feel the urge to go because you have not effectively emptied the bladder.
- Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI): Bladder leakage during exercise, coughing, sneezing, laughing, etc.
Dr. John Joyce is a fellowship trained subspecialist within Obstetrics and Gynecology.
