Littleton Adventist Hospital uses a comprehensive, integrated public health approach using SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment) to create awareness and education about substance abuse. Our team sees as many as individuals in the hospital as possible, focusing on the Emergency Room, to assess patients and ensure they are knowledgeable of the healthy limits of the average person. Our goal is to provide our patients with the resources they need to live a healthy, active life.
The SBIRT process is based on motivational interviewing, a system our trauma team utilizes to help encourage healthy behavior. An SBIRT Heath Educator meets with each patient offering resources including fact sheets, treatment centers and other information upon request.
