As a comprehensive cancer center, the Porter Cancer Care Center plays an important role in the community. We continually use our resources to support and educate the community on cancer care. Education enables cancer patients and their families, friends, and caregivers to make informed decisions about their treatment and symptom management and improves their quality of life. We are also committed to sponsoring prevention programs, as well as screening and early detection programs. Cancer control and detection include education about high risk behaviors, environmental and lifestyle modification and methods to reduce risk of developing cancer. Early detection is the discovery of cancer at an early stage, maximizing the potential for cure.
Porter Adventist Hospital has been an active participant in the 9Health Fair for over a decade. With over 25 screenings available, the 9Health Fair results, along with an explanation on how to interpret the results, are delivered directly to the participant within three to six weeks of the visit. The team of volunteer registered nurses and physicians will contact individuals within 72 hours of their 9Health Fair visit and, if necessary, provide local follow up resources if the results indicate that a critical or alert health situation is occurring.
