Avista Adventist Hospital Earns A Rating from The Leapfrog Group
The Leapfrog Group, the leading patient safety group in the country, sponsored by most of the Fortune 500 companies, rated Avista Adventist Hospital as an "A" hospital in patient safety. Hospitals are evaluated on national standards of safety, quality and efficiency and given an A, B, C, D or F grade as a result.
Centura Health is committed to clinical excellence and superior patient outcomes. As the regions leading health care provider, we dedicate enormous resources to employing standardized, evidence-based clinical protocols, monitoring outcomes throughout our network and maintaining an unwavering commitment to quality improvement. Avista has been awarded Disease Specific Certification for Total Hip Replacement, Total Knee Replacement and Normal Delivery while also being recognized as a top performer in pneumonia and surgical care by the Joint Commission.
Centura Health supports patient quality and safety transparency and believes in sharing information about the improvements we are making with the communities we serve. We voluntarily support many of the existing efforts to promote best practices, reporting quality and safety performance results and advances designed to support the development of new evaluative measures for health care. "We are
honored to have been awarded with this distinction for the second year in a row. We continue to hold patient safety, quality and transparency as a top priority for Avista Adventist Hospital," stated Kim Crawford, Director of Quality Resources.
Leapfrog is one of numerous organizations that provide reports and rankings of hospital performance. These organizations use different quality measures, performance data and methodologies to calculate scores. While quality data reporting is a critical tool to promote performance improvement, different combinations of measures can lead to variation in scores for the same hospital. As a system, Centura Health works very hard to achieve clinical excellence and improve outcomes. There are many variables related to a patients care and sometimes, despite caregivers best efforts, the outcome is not what we want or expect. We make no excuses and work hard every day to create system-wide organizational learning to understand, guide, influence and manage the transformational change that will ensure clinical excellence and superior patient outcomes across our network. "At Avista Adventist Hospital, we are committed to highly reliable safe and effective care for our patients. We are continually enhancing our processes and systems of care to ensure our patients and families are safe and provided with the utmost quality of care. This recognition reflects the excellent care that our associates and physicians provide to our patients every day to meet this commitment," says Kim Crawford, Director of Quality Resources.
The Leapfrog Group's Hospital Survey
The Leapfrog Hospital Survey is the gold standard for comparing hospitals' performance on the national standards of safety, quality, and efficiency that are most relevant to consumers and purchasers of care. Hospitals that participate in The Leapfrog Hospital Survey achieve hospital-wide improvements that translate into millions of lives and dollars saved.
Leapfrog's public reporting initiatives offer valuable benchmarking capabilities to hospitals, as well as providing consumers and purchasers of healthcare with the information they need on the quality and safety of their hospitals.
"It is a true honor to achieve an "A" rating from the Leapfrog Group since a relatively small percentage of hospitals are able to garner this accolade. It speaks to the hard work and dedication of every associate working at Avista Adventist Hospital, and it's my privilege to be part of such an outstanding organization," says Dennis Barts, CEO, Avista Adventist Hospital.
"The multiple Joint Commission honors and the "A" rating from The Leapfrog Group, validate the significant investment in quality we make on a day-to-day basis from the bedside to the board room, demonstrating our commitment to maintaining a culture of excellence," says David Ehrenberger, MD, CMO, Avista Adventist Hospital.
"At Avista Adventist Hospital, patient safety is our most important priority. That's why we have made a commitment to accreditation and to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes.
