Avista Womens Wellness Luncheon

(LOUISVILLE, COLO.) Avista Adventist Hospital hosted its inaugural Inspiration in Womens Wellness Luncheon on April 13, 2016 at the Denver Marriott in Westminster, Colorado.

I am excited to be here at this event, Simpson explained. First of all, I am a woman. Second, so much of my life is focused on getting every ounce of greatness out of my body.

Simpson is currently training for the U.S. Track and Field Olympic trials which will be held in Eugene, OR during the first week in July. In order to make the team that will represent the United States in Brazil, Simpson will have to finish in the top three.

To qualify is unbelievably brutal pressure, explains Simpson. The Olympics are the fun part. Please cheer for me, I can feel it.

Avista Adventist Hospital has the privilege of caring for some truly remarkable women. We were honored to have three former patients walk the runway along with hospital staff, volunteers and a therapy dog. Our inspiring women include:

  • Lois Lois was diagnosed with pelvic prolapse in May 2015. Pelvic prolapse is a devastating and life altering condition that occurs when a womans bladder drops. Lois saw multiple doctors and was told she would have to self-catheterize for the rest of her life. After crying for a month straight, she decided to get another opinion and was referred to Dr. John Joyce, a urogynecologist, who was able to surgically repair her bladder and give Lois back her active life.
  • Christy During her first pregnancy, Christy was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and had to have a C-section. This was not the birth plan she had wanted and when she became pregnant with her second daughter, she was determined to have a natural birth. Her former provider was not willing to consider a natural delivery, so she found Dr. Mall, an OB-GYN, who was willing to explore whether Christie could safely deliver her second child without a cesarean. Christy was able to bring her daughter into the world safely and the way she wanted.
  • Bobbi Bobbi is a 78-year-old patient of Avista Adventist Hospitals geriatric physician Dr. Karyn Leible. Bobbi first met Dr. Leible when she needed a doctor to care for her mother with Alzheimers. As Bobbi began to age, she realized she needed to see a geriatrician herself and began to see Dr. Leible for her own care. Bobbi and Dr. Leible have a standing appointment every six months and a long standing friendship. The 78-year-old recently quit her job to study with Cesar Millan and become a dog trainer.

During the past two years, Avista Adventist Hospital has assembled an incredible team of womens health specialists to provide care for women at every age and for every need. This event celebrates the launch of Avista Adventist Hospitals efforts to become the hospital of choice for women in Colorado.

Avista is committed to becoming the destination for womens health in Colorado, Southern Wyoming, Western Nebraska and Kansas, said Dennis Barts, Avista Adventist Hospital CEO. We are rapidly expanding our womens health services so that we can be a partner for life for women in this region.
