Becoming A Mom® Prenatal Class Launch
(GARDEN CITY, KS.) The Frontier Breastfeeding Coalition, in collaboration with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), have partnered together to form the Southwest Kansas Perinatal Collaborative, utilizing the March of Dimes Becoming a Mom ® /Comenzando bien curriculum. This program will provide free resources and education to expectant mothers in southwest Kansas.
Becoming a Mom® Prenatal Classes are being piloted in Finney, Ford, Kearny, and Seward with rollout to other southwest Kansas counties to follow. The program consists of six, 2-hour sessions, on topics such as pregnancy health, infant feeding, labor and delivery, postpartum health and more, held in both English and Spanish at selected community locations.
This partnership incorporates hospitals, public health departments, healthcare providers, WIC, Maternal and Infant programs, plus local community resources to provide education during each stage of pregnancy and newborn care. Becoming a Mom® is a program designed for all families, whether it is the first or third baby.
A celebratory launch will take place in classroom B at St. Catherine Hospital on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 11 am- 1 pm. Community partners, soon to be parents, and the public are all invited for food and fellowship.
