ENGLEWOOD, CO - (Feb. 17, 2014) - James Corbett, J.D., M.Div., has joined Centura Health, the regions health care leader, as senior vice president, community health improvement and values integration. In this new position, Corbett provides strategic and operational leadership for community health improvement initiatives and collaborates with Centura Healths group presidents and mission integration leaders to assimilate the mission and values of Centura Health into the everyday fabric of the organization.

Prior to joining Centura Health in January, Corbett served as vice president of community health and ethics at Steward Health Care System, a Medicare pioneer Accountable Care Organization and for-profit health system comprised of 11 hospitals in Massachusetts, where he provided system-wide oversight to community health, behavioral health and ethics. During his tenure at Steward Health Care System, he created a community health advocate program, which enrolled the uninsured and connected them with primary care, and a behavioral health navigator program which improved emergency room patient flow and integrated behavioral and physical health. Corbett also secured more than $3.5 million in grants for Steward Hospitals.

Corbetts background also includes working at Mercy Health System of Maine as vice president of mission effectiveness for where he secured $1 million in federal appropriations to develop an innovative community based behavioral health network.

Corbett is a fellow at Harvard Medical School, Division of Medical Ethics. He received his Bachelor of Arts in international relations from Syracuse University, a Juris Doctor from Saint Johns Law School, and a Master of Divinity from Duke University. He formerly taught health law at Maine and New England Schools of Law and bioethics courses at Harvard Medical School. Corbett has been published in multiple journals on health reform and the role of public health in decreasing health care costs and improving population health outcomes.
