FACTS AND STATS
- The flag raising ceremony will be led by an Honor Guard comprised of representatives from Buckley Air Force. There will be a reading of the Pledge of Allegiance, a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, prayer and closing hymns.
- The Centura Health Flag Day ceremony tradition started in 2008, open just to those in the Revenue Management department, to acknowledge the installation of a new flag.Approximately 200 people attended the event, encompassing a vast majority of the total department. The ceremony has since been expanded to include members of the Centura Health corporate office and other Centura Health operating entities.
- Flag Day celebrates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. The first formal recognized Flag Day observance was held by grade school teacher Bernard J. Cigrand in 1885 at the Stony Hill School in Waubeka, Wisconsin. In 1937, Pennsylvania was the first state to make Flag Day a legal holiday.President Harry S. Truman signed an Act of Congress in 1949 formally designating June 14 of each year as Flag Day.
- When we held our first Flag Raising event in 2008, we were just expecting a small group of associates," said Angie Cox, VP, Centura Health Revenue Management and Mission and Ministry team leader.Only the immediate members of our department were invited and the Honor Guard was made up of staff members. We were surprised and touched when nearly the entire department attended and we made sure to expand the opportunity to our corporate leaders and other Centura Health entities the following year."
