Community Support Groups Offered at St. Catherine Hospital(5)

(GARDEN CITY, KAS.) St. Catherine Hospital now offers three community support groups; My Hope, Breast Friends and an all-encompassing, Cancer Support Group.

The newly formed Cancer Support Group is open to anyone currently fighting the disease as well as survivors. Talking with others can be comforting, therapeutic and inspiring. Connect with peers in a safe environment led by Oncology Nurse Navigator, Viry Dummermuth. The support group meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm inside Heartland Cancer Center, 410 E. Gerry Dupuis and Lynn White co-facilitate My Hope, a support group for adults who are grieving the death of a loved one. Both facilitators have many years of experience in Hospice Chaplaincy and Bereavement Support. My Hope Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month at High Plains Public Radio, 210 N. 7th Street, from 12 to 1 pm. These sessions are opportunities to share your story and are not replacement for professional counseling. Please call 620-272-2519 for more information.

The Breast Friends Cancer Support Group connects breast cancer patients with a network of resources as well as others in the community going through the same experience. The Breast Friends Support Group meets the second Wednesday of each month from 6-7 pm inside Heartland Cancer Center, 410 E. Spruce. The group is led by St. Catherine Hospital Breast Center Navigator and Breast Cancer Survivor, Heather Wright-Renick and Navigator, Lisa Beggs. Participants may be at any stage in their breast cancer experience from newly diagnosed to survivorship. Educational materials, local resources, speakers and various activities ensure each participant gain the support, knowledge and perspective that are crucial for survivors.
