DeVore joins Pastoral Care team at St. Rose; office at GBHH&H

DeVore is the new chaplain at St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center and is sharing Pastoral Care responsibilities with John Grummon, long-time St. Rose chaplain.

I have worked with the Boy Scouts and Head Start, as well as with the Kansas State extension service, she said. After all of these social-service positions, I wanted to follow my calling to serve in this way.

When I look back over the years, DeVore continued, I see how God has prepared me for this new ministry. In addition, I grew up in Beloit and understand the needs of people in the smaller communities of Kansas.

DeVore will focus her service on long-term bereavement and grief support, while counseling adults and children as they mourn the loss of a loved one.

There is a uniqueness to hospice and bereavement care, DeVore commented. With all my experiences in caring for young people and others, this is a special opportunity to provide bereavement care to people of all ages in the community.

DeVore, who is ordained and board certified, earned a masters of divinity from Central Baptist Theological Seminary at Shawnee in 2008. She also completed her masters in emerging church in 2010 at the same seminary, was ordained in 2009 by Christian Church in Kansas (DOC) and board certified in 2010.

In addition to her service to St. Rose, DeVore is associate pastor of First Christian Church (DOC) at K-96 and Broadway. Her husband, Ron, is pastor of First Christian Church (DOC) in Lyons; they have three children, ages 17, 19 and 20.
DeVore shares office space with Chaplain Grummon at Golden Belt Home Health & Hospice, 3520 Lakin, which is part of the St. Rose family.

Angela brings a rare combination of compassion, clinical chaplain skills and a broad range of experience to our Pastoral Care team, Grummon said. She relates well and communicates effectively with all our individuals and families who are coping with grief. I am very thankful she is joining our home health and hospice ministry.
