Dr. Julie King, D.O., New Director of Medical Affairs at Centura Health – St. Catherine Hospital

December 19, 2019

(GARDEN CITY, KAN.) Looking to expand on her position has a hospitalist and take on a leadership role at Centura Health - St. Catherine Hospital, Dr. Julie King, D.O., recently accepted the position of director of medical affairs at the hospital.

King will continue to perform her hospitalist duties while taking on the administrative responsibilities of the new position, formerly referred to as chief medical officer.

King will serve on the St. Catherine executive leadership team and report directly to CEO Scott Taylor, while also advising the hospital’s Board of Trustees.

Having King, who grew up in Syracuse, in this new role will help ensure that the “physician perspective and medical expertise and leadership are incorporated into our strategy and operations,” Taylor said.

“Dr. King’s western Kansas roots, demonstrated success in leadership as former chief of staff and the respect she enjoys from both administration and the medical staff make her an excellent candidate for this position,” Taylor said. “I very much look forward to working with her in this new capacity, and to the counsel she will provide as we continually strive to be a more physician-facing organization, engaging our physician partners on the provision of high performing, whole person care.”

A hospitalist at St. Catherine since 2013, King earned her doctorate of osteopathic medicine from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in 2010. She completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Tulsa, Okla., in 2013, just prior to joining St. Catherine’s medical staff.

Her familiarity with St. Catherine started before her time as hospitalist, as after earning her bachelor of science in life sciences in 2005 from Kansas State University, she worked as a pharmacy tech at the hospital before starting medical school..

The opportunity to take on a leadership role while continuing her hospitalist duties was attractive to King.

“I am excited to learn a new aspect of healthcare from a business and administrative standpoint,” King said. “This position allows me the opportunity to improve upon existing programs at St. Catherine Hospital while also exploring new programs to improve the overall quality and patient care experience.”
