May 1, 2020

(ENGLEWOOD, COLO.) Centura Health, the region’s leader in health care, is excited to announce that eight hospitals across Colorado have received an A score in The Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing Centura Health’s achievements protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care. On Centura Health’s continuous journey to excellence and the highest level of patient safety, more hospitals across the system continue to improve their scores and join the A-rated group.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of health care committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns an A through F grade to all general hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harm to patients in their care.

The Hospitals which received an A rating include:

  • Centura Health – Avista Adventist Hospital
  • Centura Health – Castle Rock Adventist Hospital
  • Centura Health – Mercy Regional Medical Center
  • Centura Health – St. Anthony North Health Campus
  • Centura Health – St. Anthony Summit Medical Center
  • Centura Health – St. Francis Medical Center

“As the nation copes with a challenging pandemic, our gratitude extends to hospital leadership and health care workers everywhere for their tremendous dedication,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “These excellent “A” scores serve as a reminder of the incredible work we do each day and illustrate that the associates and volunteers in our hospitals are true health care heroes, providing excellent outcomes to meet the unique needs of each individual,” said Shauna Gulley, MD, Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer, Centura Health. “They are role models in putting patients first, and their service has been exemplified now more than ever before,” Dr. Gulley added.

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 US acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
