Healing Arts Therapy Classes Offered at Dorcy Cancer Center

Abdallah, a 30-year practitioner of meditation, instructs the Analytical Meditation class that teaches the practice of meditation as well as the medical and scientific background substantiating the practice. A secular and religious meditative practice is taught as part of the class. This program is not intended for anyone presently undergoing counseling. Originating in ancient China, Tai Chi I is an effective exercise for health of mind and body. In this beginners class you will learn the 12 sun style movements that benefit balance, improved breathing, increased joint mobility, heightened mental/physical strength, reduction in pain and reduced stress. Instructor Jo Stinchcomb is a certified Tai Chi instructor and serves as the program coordinator at Pueblo StepUp. In the Gentle Yoga for Beginners course, youll learn basic postures, breathing techniques and restorative poses for relaxation. Yoga can be done at any age or fitness level. Instructor Carrie Nicholas has practiced yoga for several years and has extensive training in anatomy and physiology. The class costs $25 monthly or $10 per class, and is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. or Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Call Nicholas at 719-564-6887 to register.
During the Chair and Table Massage class, you will receive chair and table massages in 15-minute intervals up to one hour. Instructor Warren Berg is the team lead of Body Fabulous and has 10 years of experience in physical therapy, massage and manual therapies. This class costs $1 per minute or $50 for one hour, and can be scheduled weekly or bi-weekly on a given day of your choice between noon and 3 p.m. Call Berg at 719-544-0140 to register.
The Biofeedback and Relaxation Group will be using instruments that confidentially monitor your bodys physiology, such as muscle tension, skin temperature, respiration or heart rate. The goal of monitoring is for you to learn how to be aware of subtle changes your body goes through when stressed, and bring these physiological responses under voluntary control. Instructor Fran Brodin is a certified biofeedback therapist and has over 20 years of experience. The class costs $15 for four sessions, and is held on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Call Brodin at 719-320-2567 to register.
