St. Mary-Corwins Bessemer legacy began in a two-story boarding house, that was converted into St. Marys Hospital by the Sisters of Charity in 1882. At the same time, Colorado Fuel & Iron Company (CF&I) hired Dr. Richard Corwin to lead the companys hospital. St. Marys excellent reputation led CF&I to transfer ownership of its Corwin Hospital to the sisters in the late 1940s. St. Mary-Corwin MedicalCenter was formed shortly thereafter.
