Joint Comission Certification
(Louisville, Colo.) - Avista Adventist Hospital has earned The Joint Commissions Gold Seal of Approval for its Joint Replacement Program by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commissions national standards for health care quality and safety in disease-specific care. The certification award recognizes Avista Adventist Hospitals dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commissions state-of-the-art standards.
Avista Adventist Hospital initially earned the certification for its Joint Replacement Program in 2012, and in August 2014 underwent a rigorous onsite review to attain recertification. A Joint Commission expert evaluated Avista Adventist Hospital for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients and families, including patient education, patient satisfaction, and pain management.
"In achieving Joint Commission recertification, Avista Adventist Hospital has demonstrated its continuing commitment to the highest level of care for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery," says Jean Range, M.S., R.N., C.P.H.Q. executive director, Disease-Specific Care Certification, The Joint Commission. Certification is a voluntary process and I commend Avista for successfully undertaking the ongoing challenge of providing outstanding patient outcomes.
"With Joint Commission recertification, we continue to make a significant investment in quality on a day-to-day basis from the top down. Joint Commission accreditation provides us a framework to take our organization to the next level and helps create a culture of excellence, says Dennis Barts, Chief Executive Officer of Avista. Achieving Joint Commission recertification for our Joint Program ensures that we continually seek ways to raise the level of care we provide.
The Joint Commissions Disease-Specific Care Certification Program, launched in 2002 is designed to evaluate clinical programs across the continuum of care. Certification requirements address three core areas: compliance with consensus-based national standards; effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care; and an organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.
In reflecting on this accomplishment, Candace Stutson, Assistant Nurse Manager of the Joint and Spine Program said, Achieving Joint Program recertification through the Joint Commission represents the efforts of people across the hospital collaborating to provide the highest possible level of care for our patients. We draw together a team representing all disciplines doctors, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, pharmacists, case managers and choose specific clinical performance improvement goals, including ways to improve pre-operative patient education, pain management, and overall patient satisfaction, in order to make a positive impact on our patients recoveries.
Kim Crawford, Director of Quality resources said, We are committed to providing the highest level of care and the best patient experience for our community. This award recognizes the quality of care provided by our staff on a daily basis. The process provides us a framework to elevate the patient experience for our joint replacement patients, which includes addressing our patients educational needs, making sure their questions are answered, and making sure their transition home is safe and smooth.
Lesley Radocy, Chief Nursing Officer said, The certification provides us with the opportunity to both learn and share best practices. By using evidence based practice and applying process improvement methodologies to our work, we seek to have outcomes that exceed national standards.
