Longmont United Hospital Joins the Centura Health Family
(LONGMONT, COLO.) Today, Longmont United Hospital officially joined Centura Health, the regions health care leader, as its 16th hospital. During the next 18 to 24 months, the hospital and its affiliated physician practices will integrate their systems with the Centura Health network to further optimize the value of health care for consumers, aligning providers and creating systems that support improved convenience, care coordination and communication.
As a nonprofit community hospital, Longmont United Hospital will continue delivering the same services and high-value care by the same providers that the community has come to know and trust. It will collaborate with Centura Health to identify if any gaps in health and wellness services and resources exist in the community and will bring new health solutions and expanded services based on consumers needs.
Longmont United Hospital has a strong legacy of serving its community and we are humbled that the hospital selected us to be their partner, said Gary Campbell, FACHE, president and CEO, Centura Health. Our aligned Mission and Vision, including our shared commitment to keep care local, will support us in partnering together to optimize the value of health care for consumers along the Northern Front Range.
The letter of intent was signed in November 2014 and approved by the boards of directors of both entities; it also was reviewed recently by state and federal regulatory agencies. More than a year ago, Longmont United Hospitals board of directors engaged leading health care consultants to look at its current and future ability to meet the demands of health care reform as an independent, stand-alone hospital. After a very thorough examination, the board determined the hospital would be unable to make the necessary advancements on its own due to size and scale constraints. It approached five leading Colorado-based health systems to propose partnership opportunities that would infuse capital, scale and resources to the hospital.
Centura Health stood out as the overwhelming best choice for Longmont United Hospital because of its shared vision and values, and because it had the necessary resources to thrive in a transforming system of health care:
- Stability and strength of sponsors
- Commitment to physician integration and alignmen
- Greatest number of access points of any Colorado health care syste
- Committed to keeping health care local
- Sophisticated information systems (IT)
- A long-term strategy to provide value-based, population health management
The agreement between Longmont United Hospital and Centura Health is not an acquisition by Centura Health nor is it a sale of the hospital by Longmont United Hospital. Rather, it is a long-term relationship in which Centura Health has committed to investing in Longmont United Hospitals growth and development, including capital for facilities and information technology, to benefit both clinical quality and patient care. It also maintains Longmont United Hospitals significant levels of investment in the communities it serves.
The relationship better equips Longmont United Hospital and our community to navigate changes in health care, while continuing to deliver the high level of quality care we have provided since 1959, said Mitchell Carson, president and chief executive officer, Longmont United Hospital. We will continue delivering the same services and excellent, local care.
The Centura Health network now includes 16 hospitals in Colorado and western Kansas as well as two senior living communities, health neighborhoods, physician practices and clinics, home care and hospice services and Flight For Life Colorado. By joining the Centura Health family, Longmont United Hospital will be working with approximately 18,100 of the best hearts and minds in medicine, along with more than 6,000 physician partners, and have access to the most technologically advanced tools available. Longmont United Hospital has 1,300 associates, more than 300 providers and more than 700 volunteers.
