Mercy Named Among 100 Great Community Hospitals

(DURANGO, COLO.)Mercy Regional Medical Center was recognized as one of "100 Great Community Hospitals byBecker's Hospital Review.Mercy, which is part of the Centura Health network, was one of only three Colorado hospitals that were recognized on the 2016Beckerslist.

This recognition is particularly meaningful, as it takes into account multiple sources of evaluation such as awards from Healthgrades, Leapfrog, and others which have honored Mercy for outstanding patient experience, as being in the top 5% of hospitals for patient safety, as one of Americas 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery and Spine Surgery, for pulmonary care excellence, and many other areas, said Dr. Bill Plauth, Mercys chief medical officer. Its a testament to the culture of excellence that our providers, nurses, staff, and leaders have created over the years and the coordination with and support from our wonderful community partners, he added.

The Becker's editorial team selected hospitals from across the country for inclusion based on rankings and awards from organizations including iVantage Health Analytics, Truven Health Analytics, Healthgrades, CareChex, the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the Leapfrog Group. Included organizations have earned recognition from one or more of these organizations.

Last April, Mercy received its eighth consecutive A grade for patient safety from Leapfrog, and received from Healthgrades two national distinctions in quality excellence: the 2016 Patient Safety Excellence Award and the 2016 Outstanding Patient Experience Award.

Becker's, a leading publisher of business and legal news in the health care industry, has published a version of this list annually since 2011. This is the fifth year the list has included 100 hospitals. For the purposes of this list, Becker's defines a "community hospital" as one with fewer than 550 beds that has minimal teaching programs.
