New St. Anthony Medical Campus Recipient of City of Lakewoods Sustainability Award
The St. Anthony Medical Campus located at 11650 West 2nd Place, includes the recently opened OrthoColorado Hospital, the only orthopedic specialty hospital in the region, St. Anthony Hospital, scheduled to open June 20, 2011, two walkway-connected medical office buildings and an 848 space parking garage. The campus will provide state-of-the-art health care technology, world-class medicine and extraordinary health care.
The design and construction of the medical campus facilities incorporates many environmentally friendly factors. The campus will be participating in the Energy Star Program by benchmarking consumption with other similar facilities across the country. The Energy Star Program is a government-backed program helping businesses and individuals protect the environment through superior energy efficiency.
Some of those factors are:
" TransVac system that automates the entire waste handling process reducing infection risks and manual labor.
" TechnoFloor slip-resistant surfaces in patient rooms - easily cleaned for infection control.
" Dual-occupancy sensors throughout the hospital that turn lights off when office activity ceases.
" Roof and site surface materials selected to reduce heat gain.
" Exterior lighting focuses downward to minimize neighborhood light pollution.
" The hospital will incorporate light harvesting" technology to save electricity.
" Natural light in corridors, ICUs and all patient rooms.
" Indoor air quality concern resulted in the use of low emitting adhesives and sealants, low emitting paints and coatings, low emitting carpet systems as well as indoor chemical and pollutant source control.
" The campus will be served by area public transportation with the RTD Park & Ride facility across the street and new FasTracks light rail system opening 2013.
