Penrose-St. Francis Achieves Top Honors as one of Healthgrades 2014 Womens Health Excellence Award Recipients
(Colorado Springs, Colo.) It was announced today that Penrose-St. Francis Health Services has achieved the Healthgrades 2014 Womens Health Excellence Award according to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. The recognition distinguishes Penrose-St. Francis as a top performing hospital in womens health. Penrose-St. Francis is one of only 178 recognized nationally for their outcomes for care provided to women for common conditions and procedures treated in the hospital. This is the 6th consecutive year that Penrose-St. Francis has received this recognition.
At Penrose-St. Francis, we place a great deal of emphasis on how we care for women in our community, said Christine Freeman, director of Womens Services at Penrose-St. Francis. Our physicians and staff have an excellent understanding of the unique needs of women when they are seeking or need health care services. We also produce a quarterly magazine called bloom which provides reliable health education for women in our community from the experts at Penrose-St. Francis.
Women tend to fare worse than men in the treatment of significant medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, so it is important for women to understand their risks and select a hospital accordingly, said Evan Marks, Executive Vice President, Healthgrades. The Healthgrades 2014 Womens Health Excellence Award recipients have demonstrated exceptional performance and a dedicated approach to delivering superior quality care for women.
Healthgrades 2014 Womens Health Excellence Award recipient hospitals have the potential to save womens lives. Compared to hospitals that performed in the bottom 10 percent from 2010 through 2012, Healthgrades Womens Health Excellence Award recipients as a group had a 55 percent lower mortality rate across eight conditions and procedures and a 21 percent lower complication rate across seven conditions and procedures. If all hospitals nationwide performed at the level of the Healthgrades Womens Health Excellence Award hospitals.
- 22,737 womens lives could have potentially been saved
- 30,577 women could have potentially avoided in-hospital complications
