Penrose-St. Francis and Colorado Springs Utilities Collaborate for Largest Rebate
(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) Penrose-St. Francis Health Services and Colorado Springs Utilities recently collaborated in a lighting upgrade to the Penrose Hospital campus, yielding the largest single lighting rebate since the inception of the Springs Utilities program.
At more than $250,000, the rebate is the largest since the creation of the program, which incentivizes businesses to improve their overall energy efficiency. Penrose-St. Francis has invested a total $1.6 million in lighting upgrades retrofitting Penrose Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, and parking garages at both facilities. All encompassing, Penrose-St. Francis is projected to receive approximately $475,000 in total rebates from Springs Utilities.
Retrofitting and upgrading our facilities to more efficient, safe, and environmentally-conscious lighting is the right thing to do in order to be good stewards of our natural resources, Lonnie Cramer, Chief Operating Officer for Penrose Hospital, said.
The Springs Utilities commercial lighting rebate is intended to encourage long-term energy and money savings by converting to LED lighting. LEDs are superior to other lighting technologies due to their significant safety, environmental and economic reasons.
In an effort to meet our Energy Vision goals, we provide incentives and programs that help our customers upgrade to more efficient technologies resulting in energy savings, Kenny Romero, Springs Utilities demand side management and renewable energy manager, said. We were excited to partner with Penrose-St. Francis on this project. The energy savings they will realize because of these upgrades will yield long-term benefits.
The Springs Utilities commercial lighting rebate program helps shorten the payback time of these upgrades, can cover up to 50 percent of a lighting project cost and help achieve savings of up to 25 percent on customers electric bills.
