Penrose-St. Francis Health Services Named One Of Healthgrades 2016 Americas 50 Best Hospitals
(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) Healthgrades proudly announced today that Penrose-St. Francis Health Services has received the Healthgrades 2016 Americas 50 Best Hospitals Award for the 9th consecutive year. The distinction places Penrose-St. Francis among the top one percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. Penrose-St. Francis is one of only 8 hospitals nationwide to receive the award for at least nine consecutive years.
This award is a reaffirmation of Penrose-St. Francis ongoing commitment to deliver world-class healthcare to the communities we serve, said Margaret Sabin, president and CEO of Penrose-St. Francis. Tools such as Healthgrades empower consumers to research and choose a hospital based on the quality of care it provides. We will continue to evolve our strategies and initiatives, aimed at reducing health care costs and always improving health care value.
From 2012 through 2014, Healthgrades Americas 50 Best Hospitals Award recipients, as a group, had a 24.4% lower risk adjusted mortality rate across 19 procedures and conditions where in-hospital mortality was the clinical outcome, compared to all other hospitals. During this same period, if all other hospitals had performed at the level of Americas 50 Best Hospitals Award recipients across these 19 procedures and conditions, 164,116 lives could potentially have been saved. For example, patients treated at a hospital that has achieved the Americas 50 Best Hospitals Award had, on average, a 28.5% lower risk of dying during their hospital stay for Heart Failure than if treated at a hospital that did not receive the award.
Our analysis shows that there is tremendous variation in care, so its important for consumers to carefully research and choose a hospital, said Evan Marks, Chief Strategy Officer, Healthgrades. We commend the recipients of the Americas 50 Best Hospitals Award for delivering exceptional clinical outcomes that help them stand out from their peers in terms of overall clinical performance.
The 50 recipients of the Americas 50 Best Hospitals Award stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. During the 2016 study period (2012-2014), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 of the most common inpatient conditions and procedures as measured by objective performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications).
