Penrose-St. Francis Healthy Neighborhood Project Huge Success
In January 2010, Penrose-St. Francis Health Services, WellCenters and the Old North End Neighborhood (ONEN) made it their mission to invite more than 1,500 residents who live in the neighborhood to live healthier, more active lifestyles. The result was the "Healthy Neighborhood Project," a free eight-month program that offered before and after biometric screenings and health risk assessments, goals for health improvement, online action plans, health coaching, health and wellness classes, health challenges and activity points redeemable for prizes to keep participants motivated.
"There is nothing more compassionate, more effective, and more rewarding than to be part of a team that supports wellness rather than just treats illness," said Margaret Sabin, President and CEO of Penrose-St. Francis Health Services. "I'm extremely proud of the participants in the Healthy Neighborhood Project. It shows that through education and support, we can help change the way people think about health care and lead the way to a more wellness-oriented mindset."
