Penrose-St. Francis proudly hosts Citizens for Patient Safety Founder & Executive Director Patty Skolnik

(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) Citizens for Patient Safety Founder and Executive Director Patty Skolnik lost her only son, 25-year-old Michael, when poor communication and medical error caused his death, following an incorrectly diagnosed seizure and an unnecessary surgery. More than a decade after Michaels tragic passing, Skolniks harrowing experience has shaped her into a patient safety expert and an advocate for shared decision-making and improving patient/provider relationships in healthcare. As a nationally awarded and world-recognized presenter, trainer and patient advocate, Penrose-St. Francis is proud to host Skolnik as she shares her knowledge and expertise with the community.

Penrose-St. Francis invites members of the media to meet and interview Patty Skolnik on Saturday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m., at the Penrose Pavilion, 2312 N. Nevada Ave.

At some time in life, you or a loved one will be hospitalized, possibly have to go through a series of tests and consultations and be faced with difficult and overwhelming decisions. Having a family member who is a prepared and informed patient advocate can contribute to better outcomes and a more satisfactory patient experience. For anyone who sees themselves in this role for a spouse, parent or child, Penrose-St. Francis will host Skolnik for an educational seminar titled Finding Your Way Through A Safe Health Care Journey.

One of CNNs Intriguing People, Skolnik was also invited to the White House to discuss healthcare policies and issues. She received the National MITTS HOPE Award, the Colorado Patient Safety Coalition Patient Safety Leadership Award, the Transparent Health Leadership Award and the Colorado Trial Lawyers Consumer Protection Award in honor of her son. She has made several appearances in The Today Show, The Doctors and local and national news channels.

All members of the media who wish to interview Patty Skolnik are encouraged to RSVP by Friday, Aug. 28, by calling (719) 571-2102 or by email to AndreaSinclair@Centura.org.
