SMC to Host Breast Cancer Survivor Retreat

(PUEBLO, COLO.) The Dorcy Cancer Center at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center will host the sixth annual Breast Cancer Survivor Retreat from Saturday, Aug. 27, through Sunday, Aug. 28, at the Mountain Park Environmental Center in Beulah, Colo.This years theme is Empowering the Woman Within, and the event is open to any breast cancer survivor including those with recent diagnoses, or longtime survivors. The event fosters a peaceful environment where they can share strength, courage, humor, and wisdom regarding their struggle with the disease, and offers the opportunity to embrace the healing process as a group.

The overnight retreat offers a variety of social activities and sessions while providing a fun and safe environment where survivors can form connections with others. Guest speakers include experts on the effects of treatment, nutrition, body image, and physical activity, and will host interactive activities including a mountain hike, yoga, and Tai Chi.

Each year we are overjoyed to honor the lives of breast cancer survivors at this special and heartfelt event, said Brenda Galassini, program manager, oncology, Dorcy Cancer Center. It is important to celebrate the lives of survivors while providing them with a meaningful experience where they can join forces to discuss shared struggles and triumphs over breast cancer.
