SMC Hosts Breast Cancer Survivor Dinner

(PUEBLO, COLO.) The Dorcy Cancer Center at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center will host the third annual Breast Cancer Survivor celebration on Thursday, Oct. 13, from 5:00 to 7:30 pm at the Old Towne Carriage House, 102 S. Victoria Ave.Sponsored by the St. Mary-Corwin Health Foundation, the event is geared to empower, inspire and bring together breast cancer survivors for a special celebration of life.

The event, themed Live Life Abundantly, will begin with dinner, then features a discussion panel with guest speakers including yoga and meditation experts, and a nurse practitioner. Discussions will focus on topics including meditation, body image after a cancer diagnosis, intimacy, and survivorship. Lorraine Hoyle, oncology counselor, Dorcy Cancer Center, St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, will serve as the feature speaker for the event. Further, each breast cancer survivor will be given a piece of unique artwork commissioned by St. Mary-Corwin associate and longtime breast cancer advocate, Johanna Shearer.

We are inspired by the courage and strength of our breast cancer survivors, said Brenda Galassini, program manager, oncology, Dorcy Cancer Center. We invite breast cancer survivors from across southeastern Colorado and their guests to join us for this empowering and inspiring event where they can form lasting bonds with fellow survivors while learning more about how to live a full and productive life following recovery.
