October 18, 2016

(PUEBLO, COLO.) St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center will offer a Freedom from Smoking program beginning Tuesday, Nov. 1. This free, seven-week session aims to identify tobacco addiction, develop personal motivations for individuals to quit, and finally, celebrate being smoke-free after successful cessation.

Pulmonary rehabilitation specialists in St. Mary-Corwins Health Promotion Center aim to help smokers strategize their cessation plan and work with them to stay motivated during the process. Classes include methods for investigating tobacco/nicotine addiction while finding each individuals triggers. The next phase is actually quitting, where participants are encouraged to uphold their goals. Group members are also informed of the importance of incorporating healthy habits such as diet, exercise, and relaxation routines to aid in coping with this change.

There are no tricks, and not just one technique to aid in smoking cessation, said Fred Bozeman, St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center. The program also emphasizes the importance of banding together as a group to motivate one another, and to utilize helpful information and communication to overcome this addiction.

Classes are free of charge and open to the public. Meetings are held each Monday beginning at 5:30 in the Florida Room in St. Mary-Corwins Health Promotions Center. For more information or to sign up, please call 719-557-5820.
