SMC Partners with Boy Scouts

(PUEBLO, COLO.) St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center is partnering with the Boy Scouts of America Rocky Mountain Council to provide young men and women from across the region with the opportunity to learn more about sustainability efforts including water, food, community, energy, climate change, and economic sustainability. St. Mary-Corwin is the proud sponsor of the Boy Scout Sustainability Merit Badge and invites those who are interested in learning more to an open house event on Monday, Dec. 19 in St Mary-Corwins Bishops Conference Room from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

The program is open to up to 30 boys and girls who are at least ten years old but not more than 20 years old. Further, it requires an 18-month commitment and one monthly classroom session or field trip, offering numerous independent and small group educational opportunities. Content is focused on STEM (science, technology engineering, and math) curriculum, and will engage students in the aspects of building leadership skills, character, social development, strengthening personal values and volunteerism. At the conclusion of the program, young participants will have gained valuable insight for future professional and academic opportunities and will also be the first local group of recipients of the Boy Scout Sustainability Merit Badge.

We are incredibly proud and excited for this new endeavor, as it engages two stakeholders that are both highly focused on improving the future and health of our community while investing in our local youth, said Rev. Linda Stetter, director, mission, integration and spiritual care. This opportunity allows young men and women in Pueblo to apply hands-on knowledge and experience to a project that will reap benefits for years to come.

For more information prior to the open house, contact Rev. Linda Stetter at 719-557-5246 or via email at
