Springtime Blood Drive

(PUEBLO, COLO) St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center will host a blood drive on Friday, April 15, from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.Especially as the weather warms, blood banks often become short of supply and rely on donors to make regular donations, as blood remains a vital necessity for patients across the region.

Blood donations are completed in the Blood Vessel Mobile Unit, a customized bus, fully equipped with all supplies necessary for blood donation. As weather continues to warm, the blood bank depends on donors to keep contributing even in busy times. Blood supplies may become lower at this time of year due to an increase in outdoor activity as well as travel.

As the only blood bank in southern Colorado, we have a collective responsibility to raise interest and increase blood donations across our region as we realize the importance of this vital health care commodity, said Carolann Books, donor recruitment coordinator, Penrose-St. Francis Blood Bank. We hope others will take time to donate in order to provide hundreds of individuals with the blood needed to maintain and improve health for a variety of medical needs.

According to the American Red Cross, an individual needs blood every two seconds, and more than 41,000 blood donations are needed each day in the United States alone. Further, more than 1.6 million individuals are diagnosed with cancer every year, and many of them need blood, sometimes daily, during treatments including chemotherapy.

To sign up to donate or for more information, please call 719-776-5822. Walk-ins are welcome and participants must bring a drivers license.
