St. Anthony North Health Campus Opens Community Garden

(WESTMINSTER, COLO.) St. Anthony North Health Campus, part of Centura Health, the region’s health care leader, is excited to announce the phase one opening of its one-acre community garden on May 9, 2018, in partnership with the city of Westminster and Denver Urban Gardens. The garden currently consists of 17 ground plots and six raised beds for planting fruits and vegetables with space for future expansion.

Through focus groups conducted when St. Anthony North relocated to the new health campus on 144th Avenue in 2014, the surrounding communities, including Westminster, Thornton and Broomfield asked that St. Anthony North assist them in promoting healthy eating and active living for their families.

Since quality, natural food is a primary source of health and wellness, St. Anthony North decided to build a community garden with the help and support of Denver Urban Gardens. Beginning this spring, members of our community now have the opportunity rent a garden plot to grow their own fruits and vegetables for consumption.

“At St. Anthony North, we’re on a mission to care for the mind, body and spirit of our community,” said Sr. Pat Hayden, SC, Vice President of Mission Integration, St. Anthony North Health Campus. “By developing this garden, we’re helping our local communities flourish by providing them a way to achieve their personal wellness goals.”

Gardens for Growing Healthy Communities research affirms that community gardens positively affect the neighborhoods where they are located by providing health, social, and ecological benefits.

A limited number of garden plots are still available to rent. If interested, please contact Allison Holm.
