St. Catherine Hospital Becomes First Kansas Hospital to Achieve HIMSS Stage 7
(GARDEN CITY, KAN.)St. Catherine Hospital, part of Centura Health, the regions leading health care provider, has been recognized by Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Analytics with the Stage 7 Award, making it the first hospital in Kansas to receive this level of certification. Hospitals and health care providers who have reached HIMSS Stage 7 are recognized for completing all the steps necessary steps to operate in a paperless environment and represent best practices in implementing electronic medical records (EMR). St. Catherine Hospital joins 14 other Centura Health hospitals with this recognition.
To reach this certification, St. Catherine Hospital presented data to demonstrate its use of a completely electronic method of patient record management and ability to share patient health and wellness information electronically. Immediately after going live on MEDITECH, the Centura Health EHR platform, in November 2014, St. Catherine Hospital achieved the 90 percent Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) target and 95 percent Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) target required by HIMSS in order to be HIMSS Stage 7 certified.
HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals. There are eight stages (0-7) that measure a hospitals implementation and utilization of information technology applications.
St. Catherine Hospitals HIMSS Stage 7 certification is only one example of the hospitals commitment to advancing patient care. St. Catherine Hospital leverages the strength of the Centura Health system to employ evidence-based best practices to deliver clinical excellence and superior patient outcomes as evidenced by numerous awards and accreditations by organizations such as Leapfrog and the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). St. Catherine Hospital has recently earned an A from Leapfrogs Fall Hospital Safety Score, an elite national ratings program, recognizing its strong commitment to patient safety. Leapfrog assigns a letter grade (A to F) to hospitals calculated from 28 quality measures. Of the 28 measures used to calculate hospital scores, 15 are process- or structure-related, and 13 are outcome-based.
Centura Health is the third largest health system nationally to have the most certified HIMSS Stage 7 hospitals, demonstrating its commitment to leverage technology to improve patient safety and deliver optimal health care value.
