St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center Honors Nurse With Prestigious Daisy Award

(PUEBLO, COLO) St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center recently honored Tiffani Johnson-Wiseman, RN, with the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses in recognition for her compassion, commitment and patient-centered approach to care. The award, established by the national nonprofit DAISY Foundation, recognizes the extraordinary efforts nurses make in the lives of patients and their families every day.

Im proud of the extraordinary, patient-centered care we continuously provide at St. Mary-Corwin and its important for us to recognize the most exceptional contributions nurses make in the lives of our patients and families, said Donna Fisher, chief nursing officer.

An emergency room nurse, Johnson-Wiseman is the hospitals first DAISY Award recipient. She was nominated by a young patients mother and co-worker who described her as compassionate, understanding and sympathetic. The nomination letter went on to say, Tiffani is what a true RN should be and we are eternally grateful.

Each quarter, a nurse will be selected to receive the DAISY Award by an awards committee composed of St. Mary-Corwin nursing leadership and peers. During a presentation in front of the nurses colleagues, physicians, patients and visitors, the honoree will receive daisies, a certificate and a sculpture called A Healers Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.

The nonprofit DAISY Foundation, based in Glen Ellen, Calif., was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired Barnes family members to establish the DAISY Award to thank nurses across the country for making a profound difference in the lives of patients and their families.
