St. Mary-Corwin Medical Centers Breast Center of Excellence Hosts Special Breast Cancer Survivor Celebration

(Pueblo, Colo.) --- Are you a breast cancer survivor? Then plan on attending a breast cance survivor luncheon, Celebrating the New Normal. The event will be held at the Old Towne Carriage House at 102 S. Victoria Avenue. Doors open at 10:15 a.m. Hosted by the Breast Center of Excellence at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, this event is designed to celebrate the lives of breast cancer survivors.

The featured luncheon speaker is Dr. Nancy Saltzman, breast cancer survivor, and author of the best-selling memoir RADICAL SURVIVOR, her inspiring and triumphant true story of a life marked by tragedy but defined by resilience. Longtime friend and Pueblo Chieftain managingeditor, Steve Henson, will emcee the luncheon.

A two-time cancer survivor, career educator, wife and mother, Dr. Saltzman has endured several tragedies close to her. Today, she is retired from public education, but is a sought after speaker. She spends much of her time traveling, promoting her book, and telling her extraordinary story with grace, honesty, and optimism. For fun, she walks her dogs, Macy and Nacho, in the mountain foothills, visits the library to feed her appetite for reading, meets friendsfor lunch, and laughs often with her fianc, Greg, and his son, Jordan.

This special day includes a panel of experts at 10:30 a.m. sharing the latest information on breast cancer treatments and programs. This is an excellent opportunity for guests to engage in discussion with the panel and to have questions answered. Panelists include:

Kate Crow, genetic counselor, Dorcy Cancer Center;
Janet Dennis, physical therapist and lymphedema specialist, Dorcy Cancer Center;
Julie Reiss, nutritionist, St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center;
Kara Hart, nurse practitioner, Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers.

Ami Gorsky, an oncology social worker with Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers will conduct a seminar for caregivers at 11:45 a.m.

Other activities at the event include an American Cancer Society area with information on the Look Good, Feel Better program, makeup and scarf demonstrations, information andeducation booths, and more.

During the event, one lucky survivor will win a short flight in St. Mary-Corwins Flight For Life helicopter that evening to deliver the game ball and serve as the Honorary Breast Cancer Survivor for the Colorado State University-Pueblos Pink Out football game that recognizes andhonors breast cancer survivors.
