St. Mary-Corwin Receives “A” Rating For Patient Safety
(PUEBLO, COLO.) The Leapfrog Group recently released the Fall 2017 Hospital Safety Grades report assigning A through F letter grades to over 2,600 hospitals in the U.S. St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center received an A rating, and is among just 832 hospitals in the entire nation to receive this top distinction. Medical centers and hospitals are assessed on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other safety factors, illustrating St. Mary-Corwin’s commitment to keeping patients safe and meeting the highest and most rigorous safety standards in the nation. St. Mary-Corwin is the only hospital in Pueblo to earn this score.
Leapfrog releases safety score updates twice a year and evaluates for factors including patient satisfaction outcomes including nurse communication, doctor communication and communication about discharge, as well as infection measures for Clostridium difficile and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single A, B, C, D, or F score and represents a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. Further, the scores are calculated by top patient safety experts and are then peer-reviewed and fully transparent and free to the public.
“The newly released Leapfrog score illustrates our continuous dedication to providing the best and safest experience for each patient and their unique needs,” said Mike Cafasso, interim administrator, vice president of operations, St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center. “In keeping with our tradition of providing leading-edge care, it takes consistent, unwavering dedication to patients to achieve the highest standards of patient safety and this Leapfrog rating demonstrates our commitment to providing clinical excellence and superior patient outcomes through a solid foundation of patient safety.”
The Leapfrog Group has served as a leading patient safety group for nearly 20 years, and works to ensure that thousands of hospitals across the nation are transparent with quality and safety data while sharing that information with the communities they serve. Further, the group aims to provide consumers with tools that will positively enhance the health care they receive, through rigorously rating facilities on their level of care. The national health care quality survey is designed to provide consumers with helpful information to educate and protect themselves and family members when faced with a hospital stay.
