STM Announces Plans to Construct a Medical Office Building on the Hospital Campus

January 13, 2016

(CANON CITY, COLO.)St. Thomas More Hospital (STM) announced today that after several years of planning, it will construct a multi-specialty medical office building (MOB) on the hospital campus in partnership with Centura Health and The Boldt Company (Boldt). Over the next few months, the organizations will determine the layout of the space and determine what services and amenities will be offered in the MOB.

"This is an exciting time for everyone at St. Thomas More and for our community," said Sheri Trahern, Chief Executive Officer at STM. Were making plans for a groundbreaking ceremony in Summer 2016, and look forward to a grand opening in Summer 2017.

The MOB will allow STM to increase access to health care and the overall patient experience for residents of Fremont County in an innovative, state-of-the-art facility.

We believe that health care consumers in the communities we serve will prefer to seek care locally at the various physician clinics, added Trahern. The medical office building will also provide more job opportunities and economic benefit to our community.

STM is pleased to work with Boldt and RTA Architects (RTA) on this project. Boldt has partnered with other Centura Health facilities on similar projects, and RTA has been involved in many of STMs expansion and renovation projects such as newly re-designed Birth Center and C-Section suite, as well as the Medical/Surgical nursing unit.

As an investment and development partner in this project, Boldt is pleased to continue our support of St. Thomas More Hospital and Centura Health as they expand with this innovative medical office building, said Jake Garro, Vice President of Boldt.

St. Thomas More Physician Group providers currently are housed in multiple locations on Phay Ave., Yale Place and Ohio Ave. Though plans are still being developed, the group will be able to consolidate into a multi-specialty facility. This will dramatically improve collaboration amongst the clinics. Physicians and associates will enjoy the new location that will promote a healing, welcoming environment that lends itself to improved patient flow and comfortable working conditions. It will also increase efficiency with practice operations.

Physician recruitment continues to be a focus for our leadership team, added Trahern. Our research has shown that having a medical office building will enhance our recruitment efforts in both primary and specialty care. A state-of-the-art facility, ample clinic space and a favorable patient flow will lend itself to being solid selling points for our recruitment efforts.

The MOB will enhance STMs efforts of developing a full-service Colorado Health Neighborhood in Fremont County. This neighborhood approach encourages people to take care of themselves on a continual basis, not just when sick or injured. The MOB will make it convenient to get important check-ups and screenings, thereby promoting early detection and managing - or even preventing - significant health issues.
