Three Centura Health Hospitals Receive Medicare 5-Star Rating For Quality
(CENTENNIAL, COLO.) In its February hospital quality ratings release, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recognized Centura Health hospitals Mercy Regional Medical Center, Durango; Parker Adventist Hospital, Parker; and Penrose-St Francis Health Services, Colorado Springs with five-star ratings for overall hospital quality. This marks the fifth straight 5-star rating for Mercy, the second for Penrose-St. Francis and the first for Parker since Medicare began releasing the data in July of 2016.
These Centura Health hospitals are three of only 12 hospitals in Colorado to receive a five-star rating for overall hospital quality in the most recent release. Nationally, only 407 hospitals—slightly less than 10 percent of 4,500 rated by CMS—received a five-star rating. The most common overall hospital quality rating is three stars.
“To create a true culture of safety and reliability, every member of our team plays a role. Our committed physicians and caregivers drive towards a shared objective for the best patient experience,” stated Shauna Gulley, MD, Chief Clinical Officer. “Safety isn’t just a clinical care goal at Centura. It is a system priority because we know every community, every neighborhood, every life deserves to be whole and healthy.”
The overall hospital quality star ratings are based on a composite score from seven categories containing a total of 57 hospital quality measures. Outcome categories include mortality, safety of care, readmissions, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care and effective use of medical imaging.
Ninety-three hospitals in Colorado were rated by CMS in the most recent data release.
