About John Ammons, MD

J. Timothy Ammons, MD, is dedicated to personally caring for patients throughout the preoperative, surgical and postoperative experience and believes that personalized care leads to optimal outcomes. He has been performing cataract refractive surgery since 1992 and laser refractive surgery since 1996 when the first FDA-approved excimer laser arrived in Denver. He joined Colorado Ophthalmology Associates in 1993.

Dr. Ammons grew up in Denver’s Park Hill neighborhood. He attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude in 1979. He earned his Master’s degree at Oxford University in London. He and his wife, Mary, returned to Denver where he earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is a board-certified member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Ammons and his wife enjoy spending time with their five children. He tries to keep up with them skiing, mountain bicycling, climbing and whitewater kayaking.
