Centura Health is proud to announce that five of its facilities were named as 2020 Leapfrog Top Hospitals. This is one of the highest honors to receive in health care and is a testament to our achievements in our HRO journey.
At Centura Health, we are committed to achieving zero preventable harm to caregivers, patients and their families. One strategic way we measure and demonstrate our commitment to zero preventable harm is through participation in the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. This annual voluntary survey assesses hospital safety, quality and efficiency based on national performance measures and allows us to benchmark our progress in improving the care we deliver.
The highest performing hospitals on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey are recognized annually with the prestigious Leapfrog Top Hospital Award. The award is not given to a set number of hospitals, but rather, to all teaching, general, rural, and children's hospitals that meet the high standards defined in each year's Top Hospital Methodology.
For the first time in our ministry, Centura Health facilities were recognized as 2020 Leapfrog Top Hospitals:
Top Teaching Small:
- Centura Health – Longmont United Hospital
- Centura Health – Penrose Hospital
- Centura Health – St. Francis Medical Center
Antony Pearson, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Longmont United Hospital, said of the accomplishment, “Being named a Top Teaching Small Hospital illustrates our investment not just in our organization, but in our community, as we are vested in fostering professional opportunities for our community’s newest leaders and continuing to re-invest in our hospital by training and hiring top-talent.”
Longmont United Hospital is home to a nurse teaching program and sees more than 50 nursing students each year for their clinical rotations, in addition to a small group of physicians in residency. By having the opportunity to learn hands-on skills in a real clinical environment, students are able to fuse learnings from college courses with practical, every day clinical skills, fostering a more realistic and immersive learning environment. According to Dr. Pearson, “Being awarded this distinction by Leapfrog is not just a way in which we give back to our community, but it allows us to grow our own leaders and ultimately provide care for our patients with the top talent in our area.”
Even when presented with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, our incredible caregivers continued to focus on high-quality, safe and reliable patient care. It is through the dedication of our unstoppable people that we will build upon these achievements and continue to drive excellent clinical outcomes for our healing legacy.
