Centura Health Breaks Ground on New Hospital Campus
(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) Centura Health, the region’s largest health care provider, marked a major milestone on May 24, breaking ground on a state-of-the-art orthopedic hospital in Colorado Springs. With the addition of the new hospital and our existing hospitals that comprise Penrose-St. Francis Health Services, we can continue to provide high quality care for patients - mind, body and spirit.
The new hospital, named St. Clare Hospital, is located on 58 acres of land at the intersection of Interquest Parkway and I-25 and will meet the demands of the growing population in northeast Colorado Springs. The 72-bed hospital will include 10-ICU capable beds, 10-speciality-sized operating rooms with robotic capability, a 14-bed emergency department, imaging with CT, radiography, MRI and ultrasound. Additionally, the hospital will have a two-story public lobby with coffee shop area, restaurant, and a unique chapel that accommodates both large services and individualized reflection.
“By moving orthopedic surgeries to this new hospital, we free up capacity at Penrose-St. Francis, allowing those hospitals to serve the sickest and most injured in our intensive care units,” said Brian Erling, MD, CEO of Penrose-St. Francis Health Services. “Due to the pandemic, we know more than ever how important this additional access to care is for our communities.”
During the groundbreaking ceremony, we will reveal the name of the new hospital and the historical significance of that name. At our core, we are an incredible team of caregivers who - like our founders - are powered by the faith that we can make a difference for each person we care for.
