About Joel MacDonald, MD

Joel MacDonald, MD, FAANS, works on conditions of the brain and spine. His care philosophy is to educate each patient about the nature of their disease and treatment alternatives so that they can participate in the care process and make informed decisions. When surgery around the nervous system is necessary, Dr. MacDonald’s goal is to help prolong a patient’s meaningful quality of life and to alleviate suffering.

Dr. MacDonald attended medical school at the University of North Carolina with an internship in general surgery at Carolinas Medical Center. He performed a neurosurgery residency at the University of Utah, followed by a fellowship in cerebrovascular and skull base surgery at the University of Florida.

Dr. MacDonald’s personal interests include spending time with family, boating, skiing, golfing and wake surfing.
