About Robert Spencer, MD

Dr. Robert T. Spencer has practiced with the Colorado Arthritis Center (CAC) since 1998. He had previously served as Director of the University of Colorado Rheumatology Practice after completion of his rheumatology fellowship there. Originally from Tulsa, he received his medical degree in 1986 from the Oklahoma University, graduating as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and as a recipient of a number of other honors and awards. Dr. Spencer initially became interested in immunology and autoimmune disorders during his undergraduate studies at OU where he had the good fortune to work in the lab of a nationally recognized immunologist. Over the years since, he has found it exciting to witness how further understanding of the human immune system has led to highly effective treatments for autoimmune rheumatic disorders.Dr. Spencer enjoys the diagnostic challenges inherent in the field of rheumatology and finds great satisfaction in providing his patients state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic care. As Director of Clinical Research at the Colorado Arthritis Center, Dr. Spencer provides CAC patients access to clinical research studies of new therapies for rheumatic disorders. Dr. Spencer has maintained board certification in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology and continues to hold a clinical academic appointment at the University of Colorado Division of Rheumatology. He is a fellow in the American College of Rheumatology and is a member of the American College of Physicians, International Society of Clinical Densitometry, American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, among other professional organizations. Away from the office, Dr. Spencer enjoys spending time with his wife and two college age children and finds time for fly fishing, photography, reading, music, and hiking.
