Birth by Design FAQs
Do I need to bring baby’s essentials (diapers, wipes, clothes)?
Not necessary. You are more than welcome to bring your own things, but we have everything you would need here. We do ask that you bring an outfit to put baby in to take him/her home.
Is there a lactation consultant on the floor all the time?
No. They typically work during the day and leave around 3 pm, depending on how many babies are on the unit.
Can my husband or support person stay with me?
Yes. Due to ever-changing COVID guidelines, one of our staff will updated you on our most current visiting status. If I need to sleep, can someone take the baby for me? We do not have a Well Baby Nursery. The safest place for your baby is in the room with you.
How long do I stay after I’ve had my baby?
Depends on type of delivery and if there were any complications. A vaginal delivery is typically here for 1-2 days, a C-Section is here 2-4 days depending on your recovery.
What are the hospital visiting hours?
Normally, we do not limit the hours that family visit. However, with current restrictions we only allow one visitor per 24 hours. This can change as COVID guidelines change and our staff will update you on the most current visitation status.
Do I stay in the same room after having my baby?
When do I go see my doctor after having my baby?
Depends on the type of delivery and if there were any complications. Typically, after a C-Section you will follow-up in 2 weeks. A vaginal delivery 6 weeks.
Do the doctors practice delayed cord clamping?
Yes, unless your baby requires immediate medical attention.
Does my baby leave the room for tests of baths?
Not usually. We can do almost everything in your room. We do take your baby to the NICU for circumcisions.
Can we bring food from outside?
Can I wear my own clothes?
Yes, we will also provide you with a hospital gown.
