About Rakesh Kumar, MD
Rakesh Kumar, MD, treats his patients with respect and provides a compassionate care environment. He partners with his patients and educates them on their treatment options so that together, they can make informed healthcare decisions.
Dr. Kumar earned his medical education at Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, India, and completed a post-graduate general surgery residency at Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, India. He completed an internship in general surgery at Westchester Medical Center at New York Medical College and a residency in general surgery from Maimonides Medical College in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Kumar also worked as an attending general surgeon at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton, North Carolina.
Dr. Kumar is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), obtained his Advanced Trauma Life Support Certificate (ATLS) by the American College of Surgeons, a Member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He speaks Hindi and Punjabi.
Outside of work, he enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, cooking, hiking and playing tennis.
