About William Lippert, MD
Dr. Lary Lippert is board certified in pain medicine and anesthesia. And that work in pain management makes him a hero to many who’ve spent months or years hurting.
Dr. Lippert has devoted his career to relieving chronic, intractable pain. And much of the time, he accomplishes that without prescription pain medications or complex surgery. In fact, his treatments often help patients avoid surgery.
As a pain management interventionist, Dr. Lippert employs ground-breaking techniques such as spinal cord stimulation using electricity to block pain signals. He also performs diagnostic procedures, so that when surgery is necessary, the exact source of pain can be definitively identified.
The field of pain management was in its infancy when Dr. Lippert became interested. He trained as an anesthesiologist at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. There, he was mentored by a world-renowned pain interventionist who was a pioneer in the emerging field.
The field has advanced enormously since. “In the last decade especially, progress has accelerated dramatically.” Dr. Lippert says he’s proud to have been at the forefront of that progress.
He was among the first physicians in Colorado to offer the minimally invasive lumbar decompression (MILDR) procedure for spinal stenosis treatment. The MILD procedure offers an alternative to people whose pain is severe and debilitating, but who aren’t candidates for surgery and haven’t responded to more conservative treatments, Dr. Lippert says. He also has been charged with developing a stem cell program for Centura Health.
Improving the quality of patients’ lives makes him grateful the chance relationship early in his career set him on a different course. “What means the most to me is the ability to take people who are struggling and give them a new lease on life.”
