Southern Colorado EMS Education

The Penrose-St. Francis EMS Institute acts as a liaison to and as an educational resource for the medical directors and the fire and EMS agencies in Teller, El Paso, Douglas, and Park counties. The PSF EMS Institute provides monthly educational opportunities to comply with state and national requirements for Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, and Paramedic Recertification. Other services offered by the PSF EMS Institute include continuous quality improvement through monthly chart audits, patient follow-up, EMS provider monthly skills assessment, and annual medical director testing for all EMS providers.

The Penrose-St. Francis Trauma Department and EMS Institute want to thank everyone who attended the 2018 Trauma, Critical Care, and EMS Symposium. Your presence helped make the day a success. If you weren’t able to attend we certainly did miss you and hope you join us next year. We would also like to acknowledge everyone’s extraordinary contributions to the field and the community. Continuing Education Tracking

The Penrose-St. Francis EMS Institute currently tracks continuing education hours for any EMS provider under Penrose-St. Francis’ medical direction. Copies of EMS continuing education hours are available upon request.

Emergency Medical Technician Course

Become EMT Certified

The Penrose-St Francis EMS Institute is offering Emergency Medical Technician class (EMT). This course provides the core knowledge and skills to function in the capacity of an EMT arriving on the scene of a medical/trauma emergency and provide care until advanced emergency responders arrive.

Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) written EMT certification test.

  • Dates: August 13 - November 17, 2018
  • Classes: Monday and Wednesday with some Saturdays
  • Location: Penrose Hospital, main building
  • Course Tuition: $1100 plus $200 cost of the book/workbook

Attendees must present a current American Heart Association BLS CPR card, be 18-year-old by the completion of the class. Additional charges may apply for drug screen, shot record, and background check.
